I discovered a new (to me) poet today, so I have to share. David Whyte:
The Journey
Above the mountains
the geese turn into
the light again
painting their
black silhouettes
on an open sky.
Sometimes everything
has to be
enscribed across
the heavens
so you can find
the one line
already written
inside you.
Sometimes it takes
a great sky
to find that
first, bright
and indescribable
wedge of freedom
in your own heart.
Sometimes with
the bones of the black
sticks left when the fire
has gone out
someone has written
something new
in the ashes
of your life.
You are not leaving
you are arriving.

Oh.
Thank you for this.
You're welcome.
But I'm bumming about my blogger account. On my edit page this poem is aligned as the author intended, but when I post, it's all straight lines. Any suggestions?
Wonderful poem! Thanks for this.
As for formatting in Blogger: AAAARGH! If you figure it out, let me know; it makes me crazy.
I've got no advice about Blogger. I used to have my own web site, just HTML and Photoshop, and somehow that was easier! (But I'm too lazy for that now.) Blogger flat-out does weird things. I was cursing at it this morning.
I suggest moving to Wordpress. It seems friendlier to this kind of thing..although, it's weird in some other ways. Ah...
This is beautiful. Thank you for pointing me to it.
I think I'm going to put it up at my blog with a hat tip to you Laura.
I needed to read this today. Feeling punky.
Eileen,
Glad you came by and liked this poem. The one about insomnia by Billy Collins is sillier and titled "For Karin" -- another insomniac friend. I don't think she cleans at night either.
